What is Psychoeducational Testing?
Psychoeducational testing is a comprehensive evaluation process designed to understand how a student learns by examining their cognitive abilities, academic skills, and learning behaviors. These assessments help identify learning strengths, pinpoint areas of difficulty, and determine how those factors influence performance in the classroom.
Educational diagnosticians are trained to conduct these evaluations using standardized tests, observational data, and school-based information. Through this process, they can identify learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, as well as academic impacts related to ADHD or other learning challenges. While they do not diagnose medical or mental health conditions, they are skilled at recognizing when learning concerns may be influenced by broader developmental or behavioral factors and can guide families toward additional evaluations when appropriate.
The educational diagnosticians at PED specialize in psychoeducational assessments for children and young adults, from early childhood through the college years. They have extensive knowledge of the special education process and collaborate closely with schools to recommend appropriate services, accommodations, and interventions tailored to each student’s needs.
The mission of PED is to partner with students and their families, empowering them to understand both their strengths and challenges and to confidently pursue the educational supports that will help each learner reach their fullest potential.
